Clearing Blocked Drains

Clearing Blocked Drains

Blocked drains can occur at the most inconvenient times! In our last blog we talked about how to prevent a blocked drain, however its not alway roses and fairies and sometimes a blocked drain is unavoidable. Heres a few tips to try and clear that pesky blockage, and of course if all else fails, be sure to contact iSpecialise, we have the latest drain clearing equipment and will attend the same day guaranteed. 1. The Good old PlungerIf you have a blocked basin or sink, try giving it an old fashion plunge. This pushes air down the drain pipe, dislodging any debris that may be struck. If your plunging a kitchen sink be sure to hold down the plug in the half bowl to prevent air being pushed straight back out. If your clearing a basin and it has an overflow make sure you put your thumb over the overflow (if it has one) or you are just going to push that air straight out and it won’t help dislodge any of that debris. 2. Unscrew the trapOnce the water has slowly drained away, you can unscrew the trap. Once you’ve managed to take this apart check the U bend for any muck caught up in it. If its full of gunk clean it out under a hose tap, and re assemble. Be sure that the trap washers are not perished to avoid any leaks when re assembling. 3. Baking Soda and VinegarTry pouring a hand full of baking soda down the drain and slowly add a bit of vinegar. You’ll hear the reaction, that means it time to sit back and let it do its thing. Once its settled down run hot water down the drain for a minute or 2. 4. Caustic Soda (Draino) You can try some caustic soda like draino, this can be purchased at your local supermarket. Be sure to follow the instructions on the bottle and wear your safety gear. 5. With a MopIf you have a blocked toilet, and don’t have a plunger handy, try a good old mop. If its just a pan blockage caused by a build up of excess toilet paper this may be able to push it through. We’ve found a handy video on youtube for a bit of guidance, have a watch below.https://youtu.be/06rpPEIJWAA
